Esther Sokolov Fine  is a former elementary teacher and award-winning author.  She  is Professor  Emerita and Senior Scholar in the Faculty of Education at York University,  Toronto,  Canada.  She  has  an  undergraduate  degree  in  English  from  the  University  of  Michigan,  a  doctorate  from  University of Toronto/OISE (1990)  and MFA in creative writing from Vermont College of Fine Arts (2003).  Her teaching and research are in the areas of  language arts/literacy/children’s  literature and  Peacemaking/Conflict  Resolution  in  elementary  schools.  Her  publications  include  many  articles,  a  book  (Children  as  Peacemakers,  Heinemann, 1995, co-authored  with  teachers  Ann Lacey and Joan Baer), and several children’s books (Kids Can Press). She was a founding member of Kids Can Press, 1973.  Her  website  contains  interviews  with  students that span twenty-three  years   of   research   on   peacemaking   at   school   and   an   animated   film  for   children   (The Peaceosaurus)   co-produced  with   Barb   Taylor   www.childrenaspeacemakers.ca.  Her   recent books    are   Raising Peacemakers   (Garn  Press,  2015)  and  Alternative  Schooling  and  Student Engagement: Canadian   Stories   of Democracy within  Bureaucracy (co-edited with Nina  Bascia   and   Malcolm  Levin, Palgrave McMillan, 2017).

Jim Head is a retired high school English teacher/Vice Principal/administrative officer, storyteller, and award-winning poet. He  has  written  and  published  many  articles, poems, and books: Myth and Meaning, Methuen,  1976,   co-authored;  The  Union  Makes Us Strong: OSSTF/ FEESO, 2005, co-authored. Upon retirement Jim  became  a  health  and  safety instructor. He is a Fellow of  the Ontario Teachers’ Federation (OTF) and served as president of OTF, 1993-4.
